Plans for a major new community sports facility in Levenmouth have taken a step forward, with councillors approving a £600,000 investment towards a new 3G football pitch at Greig Park in Windygates.
Members of the Levenmouth Area Committee agreed the funding at their meeting this week, supporting the £1.2 million project through the Levenmouth Reconnected Programme’s Large Grant Fund.
The new all-weather, floodlit pitch will significantly improve access to high-quality sports facilities in the area, addressing long-standing demand for reliable, year-round provision. The development will enhance the existing Greig Park site, helping to create a vibrant hub for sport, physical activity and community life.
Located within easy walking and cycling distance of Cameron Bridge railway station and key bus routes, the facility will support active travel and make it easier for local people to access opportunities for sport and recreation.
The project has been shaped through extensive engagement with residents, sports clubs and community partners, and will offer a wide range of inclusive activities.
Plans include programmes for young people, women and girls, disability sport, and targeted support for those facing barriers such as cost, transport or social isolation.
Councillor Alistair Suttie, Convener of the Levenmouth Area Committee, said: “I’m delighted that this investment has been approved, as it will deliver a first-class facility for the Levenmouth community.
“The new 3G pitch at Greig Park will provide a reliable, high-quality space for sport and physical activity all year round, helping more people stay active and connected.
“What makes this project particularly important is its strong focus on inclusion.
“It will open up opportunities for young people, families and individuals who may otherwise struggle to access sport, while supporting the continued growth of the game locally, including among women and girls.
“This is exactly the kind of positive, community-led project the Levenmouth Reconnected Programme is here to support.”
The Levenmouth Reconnected Programme was established following the reopening of the Levenmouth Rail Link, with a £10 million fund - managed by Fife Council - dedicated to projects that strengthen connectivity, economic growth, and community wellbeing.
The Greig Park project was recommended following a detailed assessment process, scoring highly for its community benefits, inclusive approach and contribution to wider regeneration aims. It will provide regular opportunities for hundreds of people to take part in sport and physical activity, improving health and wellbeing across the area.
The facility will be operated through a community-focused model, creating local employment and skills development opportunities, while partnerships with organisations and employers will help maximise its impact.
The investment is also expected to support wider regeneration in Levenmouth, helping to maximise the social and economic benefits of recent improvements to transport links, including the reinstated rail line.
Funding will be awarded subject to conditions to ensure the project delivers inclusive access and long-term benefits for the community.
