ScotRail announces consultation on timetable proposals

ScotRail has unveiled new timetable options for customers across Fife, Perth, and Dundee, which will also serve the new stations at Leven and Cameron Bridge.

People are being asked their views on the proposals when the six-week consultation opens today, Monday, 11 September 2023.

Services to the new stations are due to begin in late spring/early summer 2024, marking the return of passenger rail services to the region for the first time since the 1960s.

The train operator is consulting on the planned timetable for 2025, and is working round the clock to make sure that everything is in place for its introduction.

The consultation will look for feedback on two interim timetables that will deliver many benefits when they are introduced in late spring/early summer 2024 when the new railway line opens.

Both options will see customers in Levenmouth benefit from a direct journey time to Edinburgh of just over an hour, along with connectivity to other stations in Fife.

One of the interim options retains the existing timetable structure across Fife meaning little change for existing customers. The other introduces additional services throughout the day and evening, reduces journey times from Dundee and north Fife to Edinburgh, and improves connectivity between south and east Fife.

The timetable scheduled for introduction in 2025 would see a wider revamp of services between Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee, and Perth with customers across the region benefitting from more frequent services and improved regional connectivity.

Full details of the consultation can be found on the ScotRail website, and the public have until Monday, 23 October, to share their views.

Scott Prentice, ScotRail Head of Business Development, said: “We’re delighted to be reintroducing services to Levenmouth next year and are confident that the communities in the area and across Fife will benefit from the improved connectivity to work, leisure, and public services that this will bring.

“We know that what our customers want above all is a reliable and efficient service.  We are taking the steps required to introduce a new timetable for Fife and the Tay Cities in 2025, with an interim timetable being introduced in late spring/early summer 2024 that will deliver many of its benefits.

“We encourage customers and all with an interest in this matter to respond to the survey so they can give their views on what they would like from rail services between Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee and Perth.”
